Some of you have been complaining that my blogs recently have been a bit of a bummer. ( as in my last blog, entitled "bummer") So today, I'm here to spread the good word.
But alas, this isn't really a blog about sexual congress. It's about the American Congress, and the first woman speaker of the house, who's recent actions are making warmongers everywhere drop f-bombs instead of carpet bombs.
Thursday was the first session of the 110th Congress, chaired by the first woman speaker ever, Nancy Pelosi, and the first Democratically controlled Congress since 1995 (103rd Congress, for any freakish weirdos keeping track).
Inducting the first woman Speaker of the House is an historic moment in our culture. It means we are one step closer to true gender equality; one step beyond the prejudice that has plagued our pasts. It's also a fitting sign of the times- in the last 20 years, the feminist movement has matured into an American lifestyle as women break all the barriers: increasing their average salaries, attending college in record percentages, and surpassing all expectations.
Perhaps this is where Speaker Pelosi gets her inspiration, because she's beginning to prove worthy of history books.
On Thursday, Speaker Pelosi laid out a combatively progressive Congressional agenda that focuses on domestic issues like boosting the minimum wage, scaling back restrictions on stem cell research, and prioritizing college affordability. (perhaps a nod to the young voters out there)

Speaker Pelosi also gave a nod to the War-
Nowhere were the American people more clear about the need for a new direction than in Iraq. The American people rejected an open-ended obligation to a war without end.
In accordance to this, the Democrats are pressuring for troop redeployment and phased withdrawal.
People refer to the opening stages of a newly elected Congress as the first 100 hours. What Congress does in its first 100 hours usually sets the tone of their focus and effectiveness for the next 2 years. This is good.
So let's here it for progress. Let's here it for women. WOOT!
